Eadgar Lewis Thurlow is the Minister of Magical Law Enforcement at the Canadian Ministry of Magic based in Vancouver. A Former Professor at Deckleswood, Institute of Practical Magic, teaching Defence Against the Dark Arts, Former Auror and recipient of the Order of Merlin Eadgar is well known and well respected among the greater Wizarding community. In 170 AVD he married Ivy Nightshade and the pair now live together in Decklesby.
Biography[]
Early Life:[]
Eadgar Lewis Thurlow was born on January 21st 121AVD in Phoenix, Arizona, in the USA to Witch and Wizard Dolores and Damien Thurlow. For years his parents waited patiently for Eadgar to show his magical potential, but it seemed for a long time that he just wasn't going to express his magical side much to their dismay. A squib in the family was unheard of and something which they hadn’t at all planned for when they decided to have a child. When Eadgar finally discovered his magical abilities he was nearing 9 years old and it ended up being the most traumatic event of his entire life, you see the day he discovered his magic was the same day his mother died.
It had been early evening and Eadgar and his mother were on their way home from his grandparents’ house in the city. The journey was not a long one and he and his mother would often walk it rather than use magic as she had always said that “magic has been gifted to wizard folk and we should only use it when we need to and not where normality will suffice", It was a good philosophy and most of Eadgar’s most cherished memories up until that point had often been ones far removed from the world of magic that he figured he was destined to never actually be part of. Not only that but these long walks had been a moment away from his Father who tried everything to try and encourage Eadgar’s magic to surface. This walk had been no different to any other of their weekly strolls home up until this point until they turned a corner and headed down the same street they had on many occasions. Two dark figures appeared from the shadows almost instantly like they had been laying in wait for the pair to arrive. Eadgar could instantly see that they were armed with wands which was unusually given they were in the Muggle part of town. As they approached Eadgar's mother was quick to notice them and instructed Eadgar to find a safe place to hide out of the way. What happened next took only seconds but the next thing Eadgar knew his mother lay dead on the street and the two figures loomed over him as he closed his eyes in fear. Eadgar has no memory of what he did next only that the ground shook and he heard the distinctive sound of running footsteps...as he opened his eyes the street was empty, the path was cracked and crumbled under him and he was alone.
The funeral was terrible, the whispers and the looks burned into his head. Many wondered what had happened and they looked at Eadgar with distain, others with fear. His father had been devastated and could barely stand during his tearful eulogy yet worse was still to come. His father changed almost overnight, he quickly came to resent his son for surviving when his wife had been lost to them. The bond they shared had been shattered and his father seemed to blame him for being ill prepared to stand up against the attackers despite the clear evidence that he obviously had, albeit too late. Their relationship only slipped away with time and soon Eadgar found himself at school and more alone than ever. It was here he decided to dedicate himself to learning as much as he could so that one day he could become the best Auror and track down the two who had shattered his life and take theirs like they had his mothers. He wanted revenge and he would stop at nothing to make sure he was prepared to take it once the time came.
After School[]
Upon graduating from Magical School (an event not attended by any of his family) Eadgar eagerly enrolled for Magical Law Enforcement training for the Ministry of Magic in America. He spent years in training, more than any normal Auror Cadet, until he was satisfied he was ready. He took extra classes and courses and would not accept any grade he was granted that he deemed unsatisfactory even if it exceeded course pass levels. Eventually he finished his training and became an Auror 3rd Class being assigned into the Southern Division of the US Ministry's Law Enforcement Force. Eadgar went out on his first assignment to catch an escaped Dark Wizard not long into his tenure as an Auror and as it would turn out he would also take his first life in the line of duty at this time though it would not be his last. Over the next few years of his career he would go on to capture many criminals and stop many others from harming the innocent and breaking the law. His heroics, bravery and dedicated eventually saw his promotion to Auror 2nd Class and being awarded an Order of Merlin Third Class. Unfortunately, though good at his job, his methods left much to be desired and they would frequently get him into trouble. Likewise, he was a victim of his own success which left him unpopular with his fellow Aurors and his bosses and because of "work politics" and his co-workers attitudes he was frequently prevented from the deserved promotion to Auror 1st Class. Faced with a choice of remaining in this job with the prospect of losing it due to the climate he worked in and the people he worked with he had no choice but to look for other work.
Deckleswood:[]
Though initially looking for another Auror position in another country he found, after months of searching, a job at a school in Canada called Deckleswood teaching Defence Against the Dark Arts. Teaching always having been his second-choice career in life he applied for the position. Meeting the owner and soon to be Headmaster Lambert Henderson at a cafe in the town of Decklesby just outside the school grounds Eadgar found himself impressed by the man’s vision and clarity into what he hoped to achieve with the school and what he wanted from his staff. A few days after the meeting Eadgar revived a formal job offer for the Defence Against the Dark Arts position as well as Head of Rubyblaze House. He immediately packed up his small apartment, said his goodbyes and moved into the school faculty quarters shortly after.
Eadgar found the new challenge interesting and soon settled into the school environment. Sort of an outcast at first, he made fast friends with a few of the other Professors and a few locals in the nearby village of Decklesby. During his first year his house won the House Cup and then a smaller Summer tournament over the holidays that year. A short time into his second year teaching an opportunity suddenly presented itself. Head of Magical Law Enforcement at the Canadian Ministry Tycho Sorensen approached Eadgar with a job offer. The two had met at school where Tycho was tutoring Mental Studies and knew Eadgar was the man he needed. Using his new skills as an educator Tycho wanted him to head up the local Auror training program personally which came with it a promotion to the coveted Auror, 1st Class. Eadgar didn’t know whether he should take it at first but eventually chose to do so. The Headmaster Lambert Henderson was disappointed to be losing a third staff member already but understood his motivations for it and didn’t stand in his way. Putting the badge back on was an unexpected relief for Eadgar. He had loved teaching and being at the school but knowing he was back doing his duty was a feeling like no other.
Auror Trainer:[]
Eadgar performed admirably in his new role moulding the new generation of Aurors and he was catching the eye of many at the Ministry. When the time came Eadgar was selected for the mission by Tycho to rescue Lambert Henderson from the past which was a rousing success thanks to their strike team of Aurors, Minister and Professors resulting in another Order of Merlin award, this time Second Class, for Eadgar and the others. Soon after Tycho himself received a promotion directly to the Minister of Magic’s Personal Protection Detail which saw the Magical Law Enforcement post suddenly open. Eadgar had barely even put himself forward for it when he received word it was his. Now in charge of the whole department Eadgar began to look at putting through sweeping reforms to make it the best department in the Ministry bar none.
Minister of Magical Law Enforcement:[]
Over the years that followed many other things happen. Streaking, Deckleswood loosing its magic whilst both Eadgar and Minister of Education (and close friend) Harrison were both in it. Many arrests, lots of drinking and parties and most recently the project to end all projects, the Defence Program created with Harrison and Minister of Defence Antonia Contreras. The three of them launched the project in 156AVD to a mixed response and mixed success. It was something they had been working on for well over a year so the lacklustre performance of it was a source of embarrassment for them all. They knew they had to stick with it but some would say that the death blow came when Deckleswood suffered a massive explosion in December 157 AVD.
No one is sure where the explosion came from but Eadgar was one of the first outsiders on the scene. He had never seen anything like it, smoke rising from the school, brickwork laying everywhere and the central tower atop the school leaning rather dangerously. Along with the Head of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes he coordinated the relief effort and then the subsequent, and very lengthy, investigation. It was a matter of pride that this be done correctly, and he made sure no stone was unturned especially when no evidence of why could be found. Eventually when nothing could be turned up, he was forced to accept that it was most likely a freak act of nature, but he was never sure if that was the case. With the investigation over his efforts were refocussed on his main duties and he continued in his normal routine of work, drink and sleep, repeat.
Recent Years:[]
Eadgar began dating Ivy Nightshade in 160 AVD. The pair married in June 170 AVD in a ceremony attended by all of their friends and colleagues. Eadgar’s Best Man was Harrison whilst Ivy’s Maid of Honour was Abi. After the ceremony Eadgar led his wife to one final surprise. Stopping outside a house in Decklesby they had often visited and talked about buying, one that had this perfect blue door, he presented her with the key and introduced her to their new home.

Eadgar is 6ft tall, well built and has brown hair and eyes.

Eadgar is a no nonsense serious guy. He is dedicated to his job and his duty.
Magical Abilities and Skills[]
Eadgar is highly proficient at most wand work and duelling. Eadgar has been teaching himself to “dual wield” both of his wands at once to increase his effectiveness in a fight.
